Ronald Waxman received the B.S. in Electrical Engineering from The New Jersey Institute of
Technology in 1955 and the M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Syracuse University in 1963. He played
a leading role in the development of the VHSIC Hardware Description Language (VHDL), an IEEE
Standard. Mr. Waxman joined UVA in 1987 after 32 years at IBM where he had been conducting R&D
in computer design, electronic design automation, and hardware description languages.
Mr. Waxman is a Fellow of the IEEE, and a member of Sigma Xi, Eta Kappa Nu, Phi Eta Sigma, the
American Association for the Advancement of Science, the ACM and the IEEE Computer Society.
Current Research
Research activities include design automation for digital systems, the application of standards to the field
of electronic design automation, and study of system level design methods, design verification and test.
He is also involved with the development of standards for Computer Aided Design.
