Biography

Todd Smith received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the Virginia Military Institute in 1985, and an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Duke University in 1986. In 1993 he received his Ph.D. from the University of Virginia.

Todd Smith's work experience began as a captain in the United States Air Force performing computer systems integration, 1987-1991. He joined the Electrical Engineering Department Staff in 1993 and is currently a Postdoctoral Research Associate.

Current Research

Fault Tolerant Architectures (Union Switch and Signal)
Analytical modeling, simulation, and safety analysis (Union Switch and Signal)
Fault injection techniques (Union Switch and Signal/Rome Laboratory)
Design, construction, and evaluation of experimental prototypes (Union Switch and Signal/Rome Laboratory)

Accomplishments

Development of a design tool which evaluates the performance of nonlinear DC to DC power conversion circuits (Digital Equipment Corporation)
Development of a deterministic algorithm that enumerates all transient data processing faults which if undetected lead to system failure (Union Switch and Signal)
Development of automated fault injection algorithms for system models to accurately estimate system fault coverage and system fault latency (Union Switch and Signal/Rome Laboratory)
